Xu Tan (谭旭) is a Principal Research Manager at Machine Learning Group, Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). His research interests cover deep learning and AI content creation, such as speech synthesis, music composition, digital human creation, neural machine translation, text generation, large language models, etc.
He has published 100+ papers on top AI conferences, with 6000+ citations, and designed several popular language/speech/music models and systems, such as MASS, FastSpeech/NaturalSpeech, and Muzic, and has transferred many research works to Microsoft products. The machine translation systems developed by him have achieved human parity in Chinese-English machine translation in 2018 and won several champions in the WMT machine translation competition in 2019. He is an Action Editor of Transactions on Machine Learning Research (TMLR), an Area Chair or Meta Reviewer of AAAI/NeurIPS/ICASSP, a senior member of IEEE, and a member of the standing committee on Computational Art in China Computer Federation (CCF).
